Colonial Woman Churning Butter Shirt

This dress made me laugh when I found it. It had this exaggerated pleated collar and just hung in all the wrong places. When I originally put it on I instantly thought of creepy pioneer villages or that other Harry Potter movie, “Woman in Black” or whatever…. Anyway, check it out!

BEFORE

THE STEPS:

1. Hemmed the bottom to be hip length
2. Added pleats to the shoulders to make them fit better
3. Unstitched the collar, cutting most but leaving enough for some detail at the front
4. Pinned and stitched the front detail in place, finishing the neck binding

AFTER

Done! It’s a subtle change but an effective one.
